Walk Tall is a groupwork programme allowing young people the opportunity to develop new skills, in a safe and supportive environment, to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
The programme is designed to benefit young people who are lacking in confidence, have low self esteem or have been victims of bullying or discrimination.
Each programme is designed to meet the specific needs of the group members and so is flexible and based on the information gained from referrers. Participants work with a qualified Counsellor who enables them to safely explore issues around self esteem, confidence and expressing their emotions. The Counsellor also works with them on developing positive coping skills and stress management techniques.
There is the opportunity to work with a qualified self defence instructor to focus on their personal safety and, by identifying risk situations which they may find themselves in, how to avoid them. They can also learn some basic self defence techniques to allow them to safely remove themselves from any threat of physical violence.

Upon completion of the programme, young people are offered the opportunity to participate in a challenging activity. They will be supported by staff members to complete the activity as individuals and a group, affirming their confidence and teamwork skills.
The programme allows young people the opportunity to take part in a focused intervention designed to address their specific needs and to deal with issues they currently face. In terms of lifelong learning, it provides the opportunity to learn the skills required to deal with situations they may face throughout life.
