Go2Play - Active Play Sessions

Healthy Valleys are 1 of 4 organisations in Scotland who have been carefully selected by Inspiring Scotland, who have worked in close partnership with the Scottish Government, to deliver Go2Play Active Play sessions. We are very excited to be delivering these sessions in the communities of Rigside and Smyllum (Lanark). The sessions are being delivered on a Tuesday within Rigside Nursery and Primary School hours. The Smyllum session is being delivered on a Friday afternoon at 3pm in Robert Owen Memorial Primary School, Lanark for those children living within the Smyllum area. The sessions will be based around active outdoor play sessions with the aim to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Children develop physical literacy /fundamental movement skills
  • Children increase levels of physical activity
  • Children progress into more active forms of play and into sports
  • Awareness of play as a means to improved physical literacy is increased

The project is part of a research study that is being carried out by Strathclyde University where fundamental movement skills and physical activity levels of the children will be measured throughout the project.  Healthy Valleys are working in close partnership with local schools, Active School coordinators and other essential partners who are providing support and promoting the play sessions.
